james griffioen::feral houses

lonely and beautiful. This guy's photography is haunting. Check out his site and especially the series, 'Lost Neighborhoods' chronicling the vacant neighborhoods of Detroit.

I've seen this site before. The Detroit houses are so sad!

I'm originally from Birmingham, a suburb of Detroit. I have seen these before and they are hunting. Detroit seems now like a barren city which is so sad because it at one time was so vibrant.

Val, I've been to birmingham, it's a really nice place. Isn't that where Saarinen lived and taught? I hate that the city's become so dilapidated. I do have a friend who is working with others to turn things around.

I spent several years living in Detroit (proper, thank you very much) and certainly agree that you can view these houses as sad. But they are also beautiful. In the summer the ruins become these green, lush abstractions of the structures they once were. It is one of my favorite things about the city.
